The Garden – work carried out by volunteers from Unite Students
We have a lovely wheelchair accessible garden, with large lawn, shrubbery, raised beds for planting and a canopy which provides plenty of shade in summer. The garden is well stocked with a variety of fruit trees, shrubs and plants. There is a sizeable pond with safety rail – some members have enjoyed collecting frog spawn and watching them develop into tadpoles, then frogs.
We are fortunate enough to have an all-weather table tennis table and goal net in the garden, so on fine days the members can go outside and get some exercise and improve their co-ordination skills. During the summer months we hold BBQs for our members, carers, families and volunteers. Over the last 6 years, we have had the help of volunteers from Lloyds PLC and Unite Students. These volunteers have worked very hard in the garden, pruning, weeding and making it the haven that it is. Church groups too have helped us over the years. We have produced fruit and vegetables in the past which have been planted and picked by our members and used in the member’s baking sessions.
